Newborn Visit
It takes a few days for breast milk production to improve. During this time, newborns are usually quite hungry and active. Mothers should use family support to take a break and get some sleep.
If breastfeeding, urine may initially decrease and become concentrated (dark yellow with orange crystals) pending breast milk production. Dilute urine and watery stools are some signs of milk let-down.
Newborns usually are awake more at night and sleep more during the day. It takes time for them to adjust. Attempt to feed more frequently during the day and try to space feedings at night.
Spit-up and Gagging are quite common during the first few days. It is quite anxiety raising to witness. Please remember “Back to Sleep” position is the safest to decrease the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.)
