2 - Week Visit
Infants develop rapidly, and by 14 days of age they often demand more attention and cry if not entertained. Crying begins to increase around 2 to 3 weeks of age, peaking around 6 to 8 weeks of age before gradually tapering off by 3 months of age. It can be quite confusing to determine if they are hungry, bored, or tired. If not hungry, feeding may increase spit up frequency. We will be reviewing your baby’s weight gain today which may help with the confusion.
Infants often are awake more at night and sleep more during the day. Hopefully, this sleep reversal is improving. Continue to feed more frequently and interact with your baby during the day and try to space feedings at night.
Development at 2 weeks: Despite increasing crying, babies can calm with carrying. They may briefly focus on your eyes. Vision is still developing, and their eyes often drift. (“Lazy eyes”.)
