Development
By 2 months, your baby knows your voice and enjoys interaction.  The nighttime crying for attention may start improving as babies learn to vocalize (cooing).  Babies show signs of their own unique personality. Some are highly active and want lots of playtime.  Others are calm and prefer quiet cuddling.
By 2 – 3 months, your baby will love eye contact and have “baby” conversations with you.   They will continue to fuss when bored. They start to push their head up when prone.  Be aware of safety as your baby might start to roll off things by 4 months.  They begin to drool and chew on their hands as they enter the Oral Phase of development.  (Exploring objects with their mouth.)  (Usually NOT teething.)

Sleeping Routines

2 - months is the beginning of something particularly important, sleep routines. Start developing a schedule for naps and bedtime. Put your baby to bed when drowsy but still awake. Holding, rocking, or feeding until completely asleep makes it hard for babies to go back to sleep if waken during the night. Avoid using breast feeding / bottle feeding for comfort at bedtime or naptime.  Make daytime playtime.  Use your daytime outdoor walks for interacting with your baby, NOT for sleeping.  These efforts will help lengthen daytime wakefulness and facilitate longer night sleeping.
